Community-Based Treatment for Glaucoma program (ComBaT Glaucoma) led by Dr Angela R. Elam

Despite effective treatments and guidelines for care, glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness in Black Americans and represents a major disparity in health and health care. The proposed research advances public health by taking a community-engaged, population health approach to address the substantial public health gap between well-established guidelines for detecting and treating glaucoma and studies that document applications of these guidelines. This project aligns well with the missions of the NIH, NEI and National Academy of Medicine (NAM), as it works toward the elimination of preventable vision loss by approaches that go beyond the typical clinical setting.
